NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mrs. Carmen Garcia Oller, 85, wife of the late Dr. Joseph L. Oller, Sr., of Dunbarton Drive, entered into rest on Friday, July 29, 2011, at her residence. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Father Jacob Joseph, celebrant. Mrs. Carmen Garcia Oller was born January 2, 1926 in Valencia, Spain, the daughter of Elena Lillo Sospedra and Ricardo Garcia Rogla'. Mrs. Oller was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Joseph Louis Oller. Mrs. Oller was a member of Our Lady Of Peace Catholic church for over 50 years. She learned to knit at the age of 11 during the Spanish Civil War, often practicing in bomb shelters. She continued her love of knitting and mentored other knitters until the last month of her life. She met her soul mate, Dr. Joseph Louis Oller, in Valencia, Spain and spent her honeymoon travelling to the United States where she raised her family, embraced life in the US and ultimately became a citizen of her adopted country. She was a professional homemaker whose family was the center of her world. She will be remembered as a loving and loyal friend. The role she most cherished was that of wife, mom and abuela. She devoted herself to raising her children and making her home an idyllic haven for family and those close to them. Mrs. Oller was known for her gift of creativity, including intricate sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting creations, beautifully composed and executed paintings, lovely roses, and fantastic cooking. She was known for her incredible paella and delicious desserts including chocolate log, strawberry cheesecake and pound cake. An avid reader, Mrs. Oller instilled a love of learning and reading into her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children: Carmen Oller and her husband Lorenzo Torrero Cevera of Valencia, Spain, Joseph Louis Oller, Jr. and his wife Tina Williams Oller of North Augusta, Mary Jo Oller Taylor and her husband William Stokes Taylor of Wellington, New Zealand, and Helen Garcia Oller and her husband Thomas Clary Tillman of Decatur, GA; her nine grandchildren : Joseph Rosser Taylor, William Selden Taylor, Carmen Cristina Oller, Allyson Renee Oller, Carmen Oller Taylor, Lorenzo Torrero Oller, Joseph Louis Oller III, Declan Faulkner Tillman, and Aidan Melville Tillman; and one great grandchild: Joseph Michael Ortega, Jr. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church 856 Old Edgefield Rd.
