AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Eva Myrick Burris, loving wife of the late Grady Lee Burris died on July 14, 2011 at Kentwood Nursing Home. She was 95 years old. The family will receive friends on Friday July 15, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA. The funeral services will be conducted on Saturday July 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene Street, Augusta, GA with Pastor David Hunter officiating. The Committal service will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Grandchildren, Donald Simmons, Pam Simmons, Keith Simmons, Lee Ferguson, Dean Ferguson, Kevin Ferguson, Travis Ferguson, Brian Kyzer and Sam Kyzer will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Burris is survived by three daughters, Joyce Simmons (Don) of Anniston, Alabama; Iris Ferguson (Jerry) of North Augusta, SC; and Debbie Kyzer (Brad) of Waynesboro, GA; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren as well as one sister, Thelma Deal of Salisbury, NC. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Burris, two sisters, and five brothers. Mrs. Burris was born in Salisbury, NC. She and her husband moved to Augusta in 1951 to establish the Red Pig Barbecue on Peach Orchard Road, which they owned and worked in until their retirement in 1978. Mrs. Burris loved being around people and taking care of their customers. She was always a very positive person who saw good in everyone she met.
