AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Evelyn W. Burton, 92, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Funeral Services will be 10 am Saturday, July 9, 2011 in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. John C. Kilpatrick officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Burton retired from a career in civil service and during World War II she worked as a maintenance mechanic at the Augusta Arsenal. Mrs. Burton is preceded in death by her loving husband Ben W. Burton, Jr. and 4 sisters; Sarah Youngblood, Frances Howell, Mary Schiffler, and Joyce Mobley. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Ellen Center and Ray Center, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Evelyn and her husband Ben loved to travel enjoying many trips with Laura's travel club. She was one of the oldest members of Silver Crest Baptist Church. A loving Mother and devoted Grandmother, she spent many hours caring for and making sure all the family needs were met.
