GROVETOWN, Ga. - Retired US Army SSG Howard Bennett Simms, 69, husband of Pearl Simms, entered into rest Thursday, June 9, 2011. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2011, in the South Harlem Memorial Gardens with the Chaplain Captain Lee Frye officiating with Full Military Honors accorded. Mr. Simms was born in Stephens County, Georgia to the late Sherman Bennett Sims and Ora Mae Clark Sims. He was retired from the US Army having served in Korea and Vietnam and was the recipient of numerous military medals. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Dunn Simms; one brother James Ray (Evelyn) Sims, Homer, Ga; one sister, Blanche Lewallen, Toccoa , Ga.; his nephews Andy, Jeffrey and Steve and niece Kathleen Cash; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Shirley Dianne Sims. Visitation will on Sunday from 12:00 PM until time of service at Starling Funeral Home, Hwy 78, Harlem, Ga.
