AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Dorothy Pearl Pitts Daggett, the wife of Mr. Henry R. Daggett, entered into peaceful rest on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m., Friday, May 13, 2011 at Thankful Baptist Church, where Rev. Christopher Waters is the pastor and Father Menger officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens. **The family will receive friends Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home during which the Omega Omega services will be conducted by members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. A native of Macon, Georgia, she was preceded in death by her parents, the late Roland Ross and Lillie Pitts and her seven siblings. Mrs. Daggett was a graduate of Ballard-Hudson High School in Macon, Georgia and received her Bachelor's Degree from Paine College in 1950. She began her teaching profession in Jones County and ended her career in the Richmond County School System, retiring in 1985, after more than thirty years. She was an active member of The Church of Saint Mary's The Virgin Episcopal Church for over fifty-seven years. Mrs. Daggett was a member of the Richmond County Retired Educators Association, The Paine College Alumni Association, The National Association of University Women (NAUW) and a charter member of the Augusta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Mrs. Daggett was a loving, compassionate and giving friend to all that she met. Her warm smile and pleasant personality was enjoyed by many - her family, her neighbors and her dear friends. In addition to her husband of fifty-nine years, other love ones include: her devoted sons, Ricardo (Lauretha) Augusta, GA and Raoul, Ft. Washington, Maryland; grandsons, Vachel (Veronica), Albany, GA and Cameron, Augusta; great-grandsons, Aden and Jaxson, Albany, GA; brother-in-law, Eugene O. (E. Patricia) Daggett, Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Jean Pitts East, Washington, DC; nieces and nephews, Sandra Clark, Macon, GA, Vernon Pitts, Jr., Atlanta, GA, Roland (Wannettea) Pitts, Donald (Gloria) Pitts, Jacqueline Pitts, all of Macon, GA, Lincoln (Amber) Pitts, Jr., Columbia, MD, Emelda Beech, Los Angeles, CA., and Gena (Jason) Bowman, Seattle, WA; gracious caretaker(s)and(s)adopted daughter, Gracie (Stanley) Hampton; and loving godchildren, other relatives and friends. ** In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Dorothy Pearl Pitts Daggett to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1114 12th Street, Augusta, Georgia, 30901.
