AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Thomas Henry, Jr. of Weaver Drive entered into rest Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel and Mausoleum with Reverend Richard Holland officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum with full military honors. Mr. Henry received his early education in Roberson County Public Schools, Calvert, Texas and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Prairie View A(s)and(s)M University and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. His military career included tours of duty in Alaska, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He received numerous awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal. He was a member and the First Black President of the Augusta Bowling Association. He received the Augusta Hall of Fame award for distinguished achievement and contributions in the game of bowling. He was one of the founders of Juneteenth Society of Augusta, Georgia and a connecting Link. He leaves to forever cherish fond memories: his beloved wife, Helen; daughters, Agatha Henry of Jacksonville, Florida and Viva Henry of Tallahassee, Florida; sister, Mary Helen Henry of Calvert, Texas; aunt, Mrs. Bernisee Gibson, Houston, Texas; adopted brothers, Joe (Rose) Johnson, Leroy (Georgia) Johnson, Henry Johnson; caring and concerned nieces, nephews, a treasured goddaughter, Alicia B.
