H. Robert (Bob) Andrews (EVANS, Ga.)

EVANS, Ga. - Dr. H. Robert (Bob) Andrews, 88, husband to Dorris Fay Dudgeon Andrews for 66 years, entered into rest on Monday April 25, 2011 at his residence. Private funeral services will be held at a later date. Dr. Andrews was veteran of World War II. Following his discharge, he received degrees from Ball State University (BS), Indiana University (MS), and Illinois Institute of Technology (Ph.D). His teaching career began at Bloom High School, Chicago Heights, IL., where he taught mathematics and coached the track team to three consecutive Illinois State Championships, 1959-60. He served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Prarie State University, Chicago Heights, IL., for twenty-two years until his retirement in 1980. He accepted a position as Associate Professor of Mathematics at Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, GA., where he taught until a second retirement in 1990. Dr. Andrews was an active member of Rotary International for 33 years, serving as President of the Chicago Heights Rotary Club. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) and served faithfully in the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights and the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. He was an accomplished gardener, avid fisherman and a die- hard Indiana Hoosier basketball fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Susan Andrews of Brookline, MA., Jennifer Shook of Littleton, CO., Elaine Andrews Lea of Martinez, GA.; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Dr. Andrews is preceded in death by his parents Harry Andrews and Jennie McCall Andrews, Burnettsville, IN; a sister, Velma Louise Andrews, Monticello, IN; and his son Robert Thomas Andrews.
