ANDERSON, S.C. - Russel Newburn Tisdale, Jr., 69, of 105 Sea Palms, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Born September 27, 1941 in Florence, SC, he was the son of the late Russel Newburn and Louise Bates Tisdale. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and received a Master's Degree in Business from Georgia College. Mr. Tisdale began his career as an accountant with Uniroyal in Dublin, GA, later relocating to Hamden, CT. He moved to Anderson in 1991 and, along with a business partner, purchased Cobb's Glen Country Club and was responsible for the development of the associated housing development. He was active in local and civic affairs, including Meals on Wheels, board member of the Home Builders Association of Anderson, Sertoma Club, and the Anderson Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margie Tisdale; one son, Rusty Tisdale III of Anderson; two daughters, Becky Tisdale of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Grace Martin Tisdale of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Timothy Clark, Ryan Tisdale, Casey Tisdale, Clare Martin, and Abigail Martin; and two sisters, Edieth Thorup of Mt. Prospect, IL and Dorie Watkins of Garden City, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery in Jackson, SC at 4 p.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson, SC. The family is at the residence.
