NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Jane Barnes Rice, 84, of Fairlane Avenue, North Augusta, SC, who entered into rest April 1, 2011, will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Father Jacob Joseph celebrant. Final Prayers and Commendation in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Rice was a native Monroe, North Carolina having made North Augusta her lifelong residence. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Mrs. Rice was a graduate of North Augusta High School and the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a retired Third Grade Teacher at North Augusta Elementary, past Regent of the Martintown Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, former member of the Our Lady of Peace School Board, the Nancy Carson Library Board and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teacher's Sorority. Mrs. Rice helped deliver Meals on Wheels for Aiken County. Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years, Pat W. Rice, Jr.; four sons, Pat W. Rice, III and Nancy Hollmeyer, Atlanta, Edward T. Rice and Anna El Gammal, Augusta, Matthew H. Rice and Elizabeth Coykendall, Italy and John J. Rice and Michele Minchew, Atlanta; five grandchildren, Zachary Rice, Patrick Rice, Henry Rice, Walker Rice, Nina Rice; two step-sisters, Eloise Johnson, North Augusta and Bobbie Boylston, Raleigh, NC. Pallbearers will be Zach Rice, Patrick Rice, Walker Rice, Henry Rice, Fred Johnson and George Odell. The Vigil Service for the Deceased will be conducted at the Funeral Home Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock followed by visitation until 8.
