AUGUSTA, Ga. - Richard J. (Jack) Miles, husband of Martha Hobbs Miles, of Mura Court, entered into rest, Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at 11:00 am, from the chapel of Chance(s)and(s)Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Miles, a native of Augusta, was a retired Athletics Director for the Richmond County School System. He served on the Richmond County, County Board of Commission from 1983-1986, serving as Chairman in 1984. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. In the past, Mr. Miles was an avid golfer, Georgia Bulldog alumni and fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Carolynn Clampitt and her husband, Harry, of Martinez, Janice Morgan and her husband, Gerald, of Grovetown, and Barbara DeGatis, of Martinez; sons, Richard Miles, Jr and his wife, Valerie, of Evans, and David Miles and his wife, Vickie, of Augusta; grandchildren, Noel Axton, Michelle Holmes, John DeGatis, Vivan and Hunter Drenth, April Harworh, Wayne Frazier, Jennifer Best, Frank Allen, Reba Robinson, and Angie Slaughter; great grandchildren, Tyner Holmes, and Joseph and Holley Haworth; two sisters, Margaret Richards, of Augusta, and Helen Douglas, of Atlanta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Noel Axton, Ronnie Masters, Jerry Miles, Kenny Miles, Brent Richards, and Brian Richards. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, March 8, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
