GROVETOWN, Ga. - Joseph Spencer Lever, 75, surrounded by loved ones, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at University Hospital. Mr. Lever, a native of Augusta, was born to the late George and Evelyn Jester Lever. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Pearre Lever, brothers, Johnny, Theodore and Robert Lever and sister Margie Fortner. He served his country honorably in the US Army. He enjoyed fishing and cooking, was an avid gardener, loved animals and being outdoors. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, Grovetown. He entered the plumbing trade at an early age, last employed by Gold Mech for thirty years where he was once recognized as employee of the year. His influence will continue through the many mentored under his leadership. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at University Hospital for their care of Mr. Lever during his time of illness. Mr. Lever is survived by children Shermie (Michael) Bacon of Augusta, Leann Carther of Columbus, GA Sam (Jeanne) Corley of Augusta, Vickie (Mike) Hyland of Graniteville, SC, Lisa (Ronnie ) Adkinson of Augusta and David (Christine) Lever of Evans; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Georgia Lever Corley and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011at 2:00 P.M., in the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Sonny Serigney officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Tommy Archer, Woody Cook, Seisel Wall, IV, Jimmy Long, Danny Aldridge and Albert Blackstone. Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Gold Mech. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home.
