AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, December 3, 2010, at VA Hospital, Mr. Gilbert Guerrero, 72. Mr. Guerrero was a native of Chicago, IL. He served as a sergeant in the US Army where he was an instructor navigator on Mohawk helicopters in Vietnam. Stateside he was also an instructor for Avionic Navigational Systems at Ft. Gordon in Georgia. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Medal and recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal. Mr. Guerrero was a 1976 graduate of Augusta Area Technical School and several years of higher education. He received many certificates in his field of trade. Mr. Guerrero served as Past State President of the Grand Aerie-The Fraternal Order of Eagles-Aerie No. 1197 in 2002, 2003 and 2009. He was a major supporter of the Republican Party. Mr. Guerrero was a member of the American Legion Post 205 where he served as Commander, Treasurer and Sgt at Arms, VFW #3800, and the Knights of Columbus where he served 1980-1981 as District Deputy, 1989-1991 as State Deputy, 1992-1994 as Master of the Fourth Degree. He received the Fourth Degree Honorary Life Membership in 2008. Family members include daughter: Cheryl Brudi (Douglas), sons: Michael Guerrero and Anthony Guerrero. He was a generous man and loved by all who knew him. A Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 9, 2010, 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Michael Roverse celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Douglas Brudi, Larry St. Martin, Jason Jackson, Anthony Jackson, David Lee and Shannon Jackson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Jack Fortune Post 205-American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of Columbus-Terrance Cardinal Cooke Council #8495. Memorials contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 1105 Furys Lane, Suite D, Augusta, GA 30907.
