TIFTON, Ga. - Allen Lee Story, 59, of Tifton died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Glenn Ford will officiate with a private burial to be held at a later date. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church prior to the service. Mr. Story was born on May 22, 1951 in Lincolnton and was the son of Herbert Leslie Story and Georgie Lee Edmonds Story, both deceased. He was employed as a superintendent in commercial construction and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a vested member of the Carpenters Local #225 and had lived in Tifton for 15 years. Allen was a hard worker from the age of 10. He worked baling hay and running machinery-almost anything to make his own money and ease the burden on his family. When he graduated from Harlem High School in Harlem, Georgia, he began working in construction with his dad in Atlanta and went home on weekends. On one of those weekends in 1972, he met his future wife and "was hit by a ton of bricks". He proposed after two weeks and they married six weeks later. They stayed busy with three active boys, activities at school and church and friends they have to this day. Allen volunteered his home for prayer meetings and the beginning of a new church on January 1, 1989. Because of his construction background and knowledge, he was made chairman of the building committee, named a trustee and was the first deacon ever ordained by the new church, Unity Baptist Church. He received the Million Man Hour Award; taught RAs at First Baptist Church in Tifton and Sunday school. He was active in the Brotherhood and involved in several mission projects. Allen was a strong man but a gentle man. He was the boss, but he was fair. He never expected anything from anyone that he would not do himself. He would help anyone who needed help, but rarely asked for help himself. Allen laid his head down every night with a clear conscience and woke up every day a happy man. He loved God, his family, his church and his friends. His favorite hobby was fishing and he went whenever he could. What a good, generous and loving man this world has lost and heaven has gained! Mr. Story is survived by his wife, Sheila Kay Shaw Story of Tifton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen "Daniel" and Jane Dye Story of Snellville, Adam Lee and April Rhodes Story of Tifton and Darrell Allen and Jennifer Lombardi Story of Tifton; three brothers, David Franklin Story of Worchester, Massachusetts, John Story of Oxford and Ronald Story of Thompson; one sister, Peggy Ann Story Thomas of Appling; five grandchildren, Nora Josephine Story, Ainsley Michelle Story, Allison Lee Story, Michael Allen Story and Anna Clair Story, all of Tifton; his mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Ament of Plato, Missouri; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cynthia and Jerry Parker of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Lori and William Roach of Plato, Missouri; his best friends in Tifton, Grady and Wanda Mathews.
