AUGUSTA, Ga. - CSM (Ret.) Richard S. "Dick" Mead, of Augusta, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010. CSM Mead, a native of Wellsville, New York retired from the U.S. Army and made Augusta his home following his retirement in 1981. During his enlistment he served in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Dick received numerous medals and commendations during his career. He was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing on the computer. Dick is preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Mead. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Barney Mead; five children, Marsha (Mike) Altvater, Kim (Mike) Williams, Shelby (Mike Matthews) Reed, Richard Jr. (Nicole) Mead and Brigetta (John) Story; fourteen grandchildren, Stanford Horne, Jr., Melissa Garcia, Katherine Altvater, Michelle Altvater, Amber Smith, Ashley Casey, Melanie Reed, Evan Reed, Alex Reed, Vince Story, Brianna Story, Heather Story, Megan Story and Madelyn Story; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8PM at the Mead home.
