SALUDA, S.C. - A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Frazier Duffie Riley, Sr., 80, of 195 Clint Riley Road, at 4 PM Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Bethany United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 7-9 PM at Ramey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Bethany UM Church, c/o Clara Riley, 242 Bethany Road, Saluda, S.C. 29138 or to a charity of one's choice. Born in Saluda County, he was the son of the late Joel Clinton Riley, Sr. and Mattie Thelma Duffie Riley Hipp. He was a graduate of Hollywood High School and attended Clemson College. He was a lifelong member of Bethany United Methodist Church and served in many leadership roles for his congregation. Mr. Riley was a dairy farmer, founding partner with FD Riley and Son Construction and an entrepreneur in the agribusiness world. He served on various boards in many leadership capacities including Palmetto Production Credit, Ridge Farmers Mutual, Palmetto Milk Producers, Saluda County Farm Bureau, Federated Breeders Cooperative, SC Holstein Association and Central Milk Producers. He was awarded the Saluda County Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award, Dairy Leadership Award and his family was awarded the Master Farm Family given by Clemson University and The Progressive Farmer. Mr. Riley is survived by his lifelong friend, business partner and beloved wife of 59 years, Nellie Nichols Riley, and their children, Joel Clinton Riley, III, DVM and his wife Jean; Ralph Nichols Riley, Sr. MD and his wife Sheree; Frazier D. Riley, Jr. (Buck) and his wife Beverly, Amy Gray Riley Price and her husband Ansel; and Nina Louise Riley Nordin and her husband Jeffrey Nordin, DVM, all of Saluda. He was the proud grandfather to Heather Shealy (Paul), Heidi Cochran (Jarrett), Holly Shealy (Thomas), Courtney Brooks (Tim), and Clint, Clay, Nick, Zack, Marinelle, Austin, MacKenzie, and Gray Riley, Creighton Price, Lauren and Riley Nordin, and a great grandfather to Connor, Braydon, Trisleigh Shealy and Nolan Cochran. He is survived by a sister, Kay Waites (Franklin). He is also survived by stepbrothers Cornelius, Donnie and Ronnie Hipp and stepsisters, Narvis Werts and Peggy Garrett. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Gray Riley Kirkland, Geraldine Riley Bedenbaugh and a brother, Joel Clinton Riley, Jr. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle.com
