THOMSON, Ga. - Vernon Briggs, 89, husband of 70 years to Mrs. Marion Turner Briggs of Ridge Road, Thomson, entered into rest, Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the McDuffie County Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held from the graveside in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Monday, August 23, at 2:00 PM. with the Reverend Rodney Peavey officiating. The family and friends will assemble at the graveside. Mr. Briggs, son of the late William R. and Gladys Prather Briggs, was a lifelong resident of the Augusta area and had retired from the King Mill. He was an avid Braves Baseball fan and a saved Christian. His family said he was an angel of light that showed his children the right road to life. He was preceded in death by his sons, Carl H. Briggs and Ronald Wayne Briggs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons and daughters- in-law, Victor and Martha Briggs of Martinez, Benny and Lynda Briggs of Harlem; daughters and sons-in- law, Shirley and Donald Hicks of Thomson, LaVerne and Gary Lord of Augusta; eleven grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends, Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
