AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Arnold 'Arnie' Stein husband of Mrs. Miriam Stein passed away at University Hospital on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Mr. Stein was born on December 12, 1929 in New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Heida Lititz Stein. Services will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Robert G. Klensin officiating. Chaplain Denise Dewey and Tom Kulas will be conducting the American Legion Ceremony. Commander Charlie Tucker will be giving the Eulogy. Interment is to follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Masonic Rites will be conducted by James Summers, and the U.S. Air Force will provide Military Honors. The family will be escorted by the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders to the cemetery. Survivors include one son, Michael Stein and wife Nickie of Martinez; one stepson, Oren (Johnny) Seymore III and wife Pam of Harlem; five grandchildren, Arnold A. Stein and Holly of Augusta, Jennifer Stein of Evans, Brett, Brooke, and Brandilyn Stein of Augusta; one great grandchild, Isabell; one brother, Frank Stein of Martinez, one sister, Rozie Goldin of Homdel, New Jersey; and a truly special friend Rocky Rowe and his wife Tina. Mr. Stein served in the U.S Army for two years and retired from the U.S Air Force after serving nineteen years. He retired as a TSGT; he served in the Korean War. He worked at Fort Gordon in Civil Service for 12 years. Mr. Stein coached youth soccer for 12 years and refereed youth soccer for 7 years in Columbia County. Mr. Stein served 1500 hours with the V.A. Hospital in Augusta. Arnie was a member of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi F & A.M. Magnolia Lodge #0120, Lifetime Member of the VFW 3200 and a Honorary Life Member of the American Legion Post 192 for 15 years. He served as Finance Officer, Exe. Board, and Historian for Post 192. He also served as public relations and Historian for the 11th district of the American Legion. Pallbearers will be, Cecil Holloway, Ed Beckman, Steve Evecker, Jim Nelson, Rick Parker, Harry Owens, Johnnie Helmick, and Bill Nicholas. Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Family and VFW Post 3200. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, Department of Georgia, Commander's Special Project at 3035 Mt. Zion Rd. Stockbridge, GA 30281 or the American Legion Post 192 for the MIA/POW Gazebo at 1 Legion Dr., Evans, GA 30809. The family will be receiving friends at the residence on Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.
