William L. Dockery ( CARTERSVILLE, Ga.)


CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Mr. William "Bill" Lincoln Dockery, Jr. of Cartersville, Georgia died Friday, August 6, 2010. Mr. Dockery was born July 29, 1925 in Coffee County, Georgia, and was the son of the late William Lincoln Dockery, Sr. and the late Louise Lott Dockery. Bill attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia. He held masters degrees in agricultural business and counseling. He was a WWII veteran who fought in Italy with the 34th Infantry Division of the 5th Army and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked for Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation for 27 years prior to retirement. Bill was an avid traveler and loved camping. He had a strong interest in genealogy and participated in the publishing of two books on the Dockery family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Maddox. He is survived by his wife of sixty- two years, Doris Jacobs Dockery; four sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Cindy Dockery, Anthony and Carlene Dockery, Keith and Kim Dockery and Kim and Marie Dockery; two brothers, Dr. Karl Dockery and Jimmy Dockery and three sisters, Bobbie Eason, Faye Davis, and Cheryl Polk; two granddaughters, Lauren Dockery and Jill Dockery, and three grandsons, Stephen Dockery, Scott Dockery, and Lee Dockery. There will be a memorial service Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Cartersville, Georgia. There will also be a memorial service Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Broxton, Georgia.
