AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Calvin Shipman, Jr. of Lee Beard Way entered into rest on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the V. A. Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Beulah Grove Baptist Church with Rev. James Kendrick officiating. Burial will be at Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Shipman, a native of Augusta, was a 1965 graduate of Lucy Laney High School and was a U. S. Army veteran of Viet Nam Conflict. As a member of Hale Street Baptist Church, he worked actively with the Men's Fellowship and Sunday School. He was the official "Church Chef" for fourteen years. Survivors are two daughters, LaNeta (Michael) Shipman-Mills, Fresco, CA, Felicia Shipman, Augusta; grandson, Randy DeShazier, Fresno, CA; father, Calvin Shipman, Sr., Augusta; five sisters, Thelma S. Patrick, Rosa Shipman, Gloria S. (Steve) Jarrell, Augusta, Brenda S. (Marlon) Maxey, Betty S. (Bruce) Hammond, Hephzibah; three brothers, Clarence Shipman, Charles Shipman, Nathan Shipman, Hephzibah; very special friend, Shannee Thomas; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hale Street Baptist Church. Williams Funeral Home, 1765 Martin Luther King Blvd., Augusta, GA.
