BARNWELL, S.C. - A memorial service for Michael Carrico "Mike" Martin, 68, of Barnwell, SC will be held twelve o'clock noon, Thursday, May 27, 2010 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with burial at the Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday. Memorials may be sent to Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 1123, Bamberg, SC 29003. All Barnwell County law officers and Blackville District 2 Fire Department personnel will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mike passed away Monday, May 24, 2010. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was a son of the late Vaughn Franklin Martin and Thelma Marie Carrico Martin. Mike retired having owned and operated Martin's Paint and Body Shop in Blackville, served 15 years on the Blackville Volunteer Fire Department, served as a reserve officer for the Blackville Police Department for five years, served as a reserve deputy for the Barnwell County Sherriff's Department for 13 years and was a US Navy Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Sandifer Martin of the home; daughters, Linda and Debbie Martin, both of Barnwell, Charlene Martin of Florida; sons, Michael Vaughn (Faith) Martin of Blackville, Roy Martin and Johnny Martin of Cummings, GA; step-sons, Jason (Stephanie) Davis of Lexington, David J. Berry of Blackville, Brandon (Ashley) Berry of Rowesville; brothers, Greg (Helen) Martin of Martinez, GA, Brian (Susan) Martin of Atlanta, GA, Steve Martin Augusta, GA; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
