JACKSON, S.C. - Funeral Services for Mr. Basil T. Brinkley, 91, of Atomic Road, Jackson, SC, who entered into rest April 15, 2010, will be conducted Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the First Christian Church of Jackson. Rev. Michael D. Riddle and Dr. Gene Sexton officiating. Interment in Jackson Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Mr. Brinkley was a native of Ellenton, SC, having made Jackson his home for the past 58 years. He was a graduate of the Citadel, and a United States Army Veteran of WWII and Korea, having retired with 29 years of service. During the course of his career Mr. Brinkley worked for Life and Casualty, Dunn and Bradstreet, Murray Biscuit Company and retired as Comptroller for Aiken County Schools in 1986. He loved gardening, fishing, the Atlanta Braves and the Silver Bluff Bulldogs. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Brinkley. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eleanor B. Brinkley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Red Curton, Jackson and Barbara and Rob Phillips, Athens, GA; four grandchildren, Shannon Spires, Sam Phillips, Caroline Batson, Sara Layman; six great-grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons and Elders from the First Christian Church of Jackson. Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brinkley, Sam Phillips, Rob Phillips, Red Curton, Travis Spires, Tilden Hilderbrand, and Garrett Ashley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6. Memorials may be made to Randy Brinkley Scholarship Fund, c/o Silver Bluff High School Booster Club, 311 Hendrix Street, Jackson, SC 29831.
