SALUDA, S.C. - Thomas Hardy Rankin, 88, of 209 Greenwood Hwy., died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Saluda Nursing Center. Born in Saluda County and a son of the late Benjamin William and Daisy Bell Crouch Rankin, he was the husband of the late Frances Elizabeth Wise Rankin. Mr. Rankin was a US Coast Guard veteran of World War II and was a retired supervisor with Milliken & Company in Johnston. He was a mason and member of Travis Lodge #241 and St. Paul United Methodist Church. Surviving is a daughter, Kay Dianne Rankin of Saluda, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Wise and Debbie Rankin of Lincolnton, GA, two grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Amelia Elizabeth "Amy" Rankin and Thomas Benjamin and Dana Rankin, three great-grandchildren, Danielle Rankin, Conner Rankin and Devin Young and a sister-in-law, Rosa Eva Rankin of Saluda. A brother, Archie Ben Rankin, preceded Mr. Rankin in death. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, March 22, 2010 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Norrell officiating. Interment will follow in Travis Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service in the JN DeLoach Sunday School class.
