NEW ELLENTON, S.C. - Funeral services for Nellie V. Rodgers, 400 Florida Avenue, N.W. ,who passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving friends, will be held 1 pm Monday, 3/22/2010 at Jackson-Brooks Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bruce Page officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, 524 Whiskey Rd, Aiken. Nellie was born in Alderson, West Virginia, the daughter of the late L. B. and Hellen Thompson Rodgers She lived in New Ellenton for the past three years, but before that, she lived in Long Island, Hempstead, NY for over forty years. She attended the Beech Island Church of Christ and volunteered in the Soup Kitchen and as a pink lady with the Aiken Hospital. Nellie wrote many beautiful poems. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Nathan Sands and her good friend, Clinton Rouse. She leaves to cherish her memory: An adopted son, Jeremy C. Doe, Aiken, SC; her friends, Amanda 'Jean' Green and Sandra Rouse, both of Aiken, who cared for her all the time and Louise Doe Gerideau, and many other loving friends.
