ROME, Ga. - Mr. Mark Stephen Ely, 44, of Rome, GA passed Thursday at his residence. Mr. Ely was born in Santa Barbara, CA, soon after his family relocated to Sylvania, GA. He was a graduate of Screven County Academy and attended Middle Georgia College and Georgia Southern University. He moved to Rome in 1989 and was employed as a Computer Systems Manager. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Andrew Ely. Survivors include his mother, Roberta Daughtry Ely, of Sylvania; his Australian Shepherd, Ace, of Rome; uncle, Robert Daughtry, and aunt and uncle, Margaret and Osal Evans, all of Sylvania; and several cousins. A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Sylvania, GA. He will be laid to rest beside his father in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Hereth, Mike Waters, Phillip Moore, Ben McRee, Chris Girage, Russ Waters, and Randy Baker. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haitian Relief Fund. The family is receiving friends at his mother's residence of 213 Pinecrest Dr. in Sylvania, GA. Friends may sign the online register book at www.joineranderson .com.
