BELVEDERE, S.C. - James Gaston Dover, 97, of Audubon Circle, Belvedere, SC entered into rest on Friday, March 19, 2010. He was born in Gaston County, NC to John Henry & Nanny Dover. He was raised in Belmont, NC, but lived the majority of his life after marriage in South Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Ruth Gaddy Dover. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 23rd at 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ann Everett officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jimmy Ussery, John Ussery, Troy Dover, Heath Moore, and Ryan Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Belvedere Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the Scottish Rite and York Rite of Aiken. Mr. Dover was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed camping and his service to the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He devoted his lifetime to his family and decades of service to Belvedere Methodist church, the Belvedere Masonic Lodge, 45 years to the Boy Scouts of America and in 1979, he received its highest scouting honor, the Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Dover was retired from DuPont and was a Mason for 69 years, serving in the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners and Eastern Star. He served as District Deputy Grand Master in the 6th District of South Carolina and was a 33rd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. Survivors include two sons: James Dale (Barbara) Dover of Beech Island and David Dover of Washington State; three daughters: Dorris Ussery of Belvedere, Susan (Sheldon) Lytton of Los Angeles, and Laura (George) Moore of Lincolnton, GA; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one nephew. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday March 22, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Belvedere United Methodist Church, 202 Rhomboid Place, Belvedere, SC 29841.
