EVANS, Ga. - Mr. George D. Allen, 82, of Carol Ct., entered into rest Monday March 15, 2010, at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Al Kurtz officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A native of Glascock, Co., he was an army veteran, a member of the Christian Advent Church in Augusta, Ga., and retired from the Civil Service at Ft. Gordon. He is survived by his loving wife, of 65 years, Mrs. Mary Bessie Mathis Allen of Leah, Ga.; five sisters, Kathleen Reese of Gibson, Ester Thompson of Macon, Willie Bell Reese of Thomson, Frankie Edwards of White Plains, and Zylphia Reese of Gibson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nora Hawkins Allen and a sister, Mary Emma Williams. Pallbearers are Tommy Thompson, Terry Thompson, Charles Thompson, Wynn Cox, Kim Williams and Wayne Mathis. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Lyons, Virgie Kitchens, Roy Black, A.O. Taylor, Thomas Downs and Phil Raley. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mt.
