AUGUSTA, Ga. - Leighton A. Quidley, born in Buxton, NC to the late John A. Quidley and Ruth Quidley died on Thursday March 11, 2010 at the VA Hospital in downtown Augusta, GA. Mr. Quidley retired from the United States Army after over 20 years and having served in the Vietnam war. He was the recipient of many military awards including: the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and Technical Medal 2nd Class (Vietnam). Mr. Quidley was a Freemason as well as a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He retired from the Department of Veterans Administration after 20 years of service. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Buxton, NC; Mr. Quidley was survived by his loving wife, Grace L. Quidley of Augusta, GA; daughter, Deborah (Quidley) Bates, of Alexandria, VA; son, Michael L. Quidley, of Woodbridge, VA; his predeceased son, Leighton A. Quidley Jr.; his granddaughter, Kimberly A. Bates, of Alexandria, VA; and granddaughter, Victoria A. Quidley, of Manassas, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his name to the American Heart Association. A viewing with the family will be held on Tuesday March 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Buxton, NC. Mr. Quidley will be laid to rest at the Quidley Cemetery following a full military Funeral on Wednesday March 17, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Buxton, NC. Mr. Quidley was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed.
