MILLEN, Ga. - Mrs. Mamie Lee Rountree, 93, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010, 2:30 p.m., at Pine Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. L.E. Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Sister Mamie Lee Rountree was the daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Palmer. She was born in Jefferson County, Georgia, August 16, 1916. At an early age she confessed her life to Christ. Mamie attended the Jefferson County school system. She was a member of the Third Chapel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Deaconess, Missionary and Mother's Board ministries. She was also a member of the Summer Stand Social Aid Society #3, where she served as the secretary for 35 years. Mamie was united in holy matrimony to the late Willie Rountree on November 27, 1932. Into this union five children were born. Three preceded her in death, Mrs. Lois Rountree Davis, E.J. Rountree and Mrs. Doris Rountree Davis. Mamie was known by many "special names" to many of her family and friends: Aunt Mamie Lee, Daughter, Monk, Sister, Cuz Sister, Mamie Lou, Ms. Mamie and Ms. Rountree and to each name she lovingly answered. She always wore a beautiful smile and was kind and loving to everyone. Mamie leaves to cherish her precious memories: one daughter, Mrs. Cora (Marion) Redfield, Gough, Ga.; and one son, Exilee Rountree, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She raised three devoted grandchildren: Mrs. Mamie Joe (Donald) Burke, Hephzibah, Ga., Mr. Wilbert (Johnnie Mae) Dukes, Millen, Ga., and Mr. Ricky Rountree, Gracewood, Ga.; one daughter-in-law: Mrs. Essie Rountree, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one son-in-law: Mr. Sidney Davis, Midville, Ga.; two sisters-in-law: Ethel Rountree, Augusta, Ga., and Mrs. Gladys Rountree Scott, Savannah, Ga.; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many cherished family and friends.
