CHARLESTON, S.C. - Edward Allison Watts, age 89, died March 10, 2010. Born January 29, 1921 in Camden, SC, he lived in Greenville, North Augusta and Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of are invited to attend his funeral services Saturday, March 13, 2010 at two o'clock in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Friday between five and seven o'clock. Ed grew up in Camden, graduating from Camden High School. He joined the Army Air Corps (AAC) Reserves in 1942 and trained at the Camden airport. When he received a special delivery letter in 1943 telling him to report to Charleston, he and his parents made the trip from Camden. Ed's active duty date was October 21, 1943, and he proudly served in Europe during WWII from 1943-1946 as an aircraft mechanic. Ed received the ATO Medal, EAMETO Medal, and WWII Victory Medal and separated from the AAC March 8, 1946 at Camp Shelby, MS as a Sergeant. Ed was raised Baptist and became a Lutheran when he married Lee. Ed and Lee kept their church membership in St. John's Lutheran Church in downtown Charleston, but Ed also attended services regularly at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Ashley. He made friends easily and enjoyed many lifelong friendships, among which were his Mall Walking friends he got to know from the many mornings he and his friends met to walk at the Citadel Mall. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lisette "Lee" Greene Watts ; his parents: Bessie Spears Watts and Fredrick Edward Watts; a half-sister: Alberta Watts Tobias; and his younger brother, Luther James "LJ" Watts. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Ann Boniface Molony of Charleston, SC, George Boniface of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bernard Boniface (Starr) of Stewart, FL; Jean Borgen Gardner of Orlando, FL, Irvind Borgen (Gloria) of James Island, SC, RoseMarie Greene Spence (Bill) of Ormond Beach, FL, Russell Greene (Judy) of Delray, FL, and all of their families. We would like to express our deep appreciation to the kind and caring staff of Patriots Harbor, Ralph H. Johnson Medical Facility.
