AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. John W. Whitehead, Sr. of W. Kensington Drive entered into rest on Monday, February 15, 2010 at University Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at B.A. Williams Memorial Chapel with Minister Larry Noble officiating. Burial will be at Walker Memorial Park. Mr. Whitehead, a native of Augusta, was a 1969 graduate of Lucy Laney High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football and track. After thirty three years of service, he retired from the Richmond County Board of education having served as custodian at Silas X. Floyd Elementary, T. W. Josey High and A. Dorothy Hains Elementary Schools. Survivors are his wife, Brenda J. Whitehead; son, John W. (Lakeisa) Whitehead, Jr., Augusta; daughter, April M. Whitehead, Augusta; sisters, Mary A. (Charles) McKie, Augusta, Patrica A. Gutierrez, Ft. Hood, TX; brothers, Leroy Whitehead, Robert Whitehead, Ralph Whitehead, Nathaniel Whitehead, Augusta; three grandchildren; and other relatives.
