GREENWOOD, S.C. - Ernest Clarence 'E.C.' Gillian, 89, resident of 216 Briarwood Rd., widower of Louise Morrell Gillian, died February 6, 2010 at his home. Born in Greenwood County, December 29, 1920, he was a son of the late Ernest Gary and Essie Hastings Gillian. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired as District Manager of Palmetto Baking Co. (Sunbeam Bread Co.) 'E.C.' was currently employed by Price Wise (Piggly Wiggly) with 26 years of service. He loved politics, Gamecock football and gardening. 'E.C.' never met a stranger. He loved people, his family and friends and his Lord, Jesus Christ. A member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class, he was also a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge #91 and the Hejaz Shriner's Clown Unit. Surviving are two sons, Ernie Gillian and wife, Candy of the home and Mike and wife, Susan of Belvedere; five grandchildren, Kevin Gillian and wife, Ashley of N. Augusta, Jason Gillian and friend, Brian of Charlotte, NC, Paige G. Hodges and husband, Tim of Greenwood, Anna Ready of Columbia and Ashton Ready of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Janice McMahan of Greenwood; his faithful canine companions, Holly and Abbie. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday at Rice Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Hodges and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be held in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Gary Gillion, Jyll Maddox, Ray Witt, Richard Coker, Frank Robinson, Tom Givens, David Ross, Mike Ware, Dan Smyth and Denny Layne. Honorary escort will be members of the Open Door Sunday School Class of Rice Memorial Baptist Church, retirees of Sunbeam Bread Co. along with Dr. Floyd Hatcher, John Hastings, Cliff Peeler, Joe Scott and Jack Simpson. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 PM Tuesday. The family is at the home on Briarwood Rd and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Monday evening.
