EVANS, GA - Mr. Robert Russell Rollins, 77, husband of Mrs. Glenda W. Rollins, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009 in the University Hospital. Memorial services will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Platt's Funeral Home Chapel, Belair Road in Evans with the Rev. Leroy Beard. Mr. Rollins was a native of Exeter, NH and a 1950 graduate of Raymond High School in Raymond, NH. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 and spent almost four years aboard the USS New Jersey, which he served two tours fighting in Korea. After the service, he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Poultry Husbandry from the University of New Hampshire. After graduation he was employed by Nichols Inc. as a poultry breeder and Miller & Bushong as a farm manager. After extensive travel to raise chickens in the South, in 1971 he took a general manager's position at Marbut Milling Company in Augusta, Ga. In 1974, Greider Farms purchased a mill in Bowman, Georgia in which Mr. Rollins established prior; he operated the mill for Greider Farms until it was sold in 1982. He also traveled in the southeast working with the vitamin company Nutrius. Mr. Rollins retired in 1996 after managing Davis Insulation Company for three years. Mr. Rollins was a member of West Lake Country and attended Stevens Creek Community Church. Survivors include his wife, Glenda W. Rollins; two sons, Scott Rollins, Athens, GA and Brad (Shelley) Rollins, Evans, GA; three grandchildren, Haley, Bradlie and Maggie. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Rollins. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the time of service at Platt's Funeral Home, Belair Road, Evans, Georgia.
