Ralph D. Johnson (HARLEM, Ga.)

HARLEM, Ga. - Starling Funeral Home announces the death of Retired Master Sergeant Ralph DeForest Johnson, Jr. , 61, husband of Mrs. Carol Cliatt Johnson, who entered into rest on Tuesday, December 08, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Powell Baptist Church with the Reverend Randall Whitaker and Douglas Hood officiating with Full Military Honors accorded. Interment will be in the Church cemetery. Mr. Johnson was born in Richmond County to the late Ralph D. Johnson, Sr. and Evelyn Grant Lonergan. He was an U.S. Army and Army Reserve retiree having served 39 years including Vietnam and the Gulf War. Mr. Johnson was the recipient of numerous military awards including the Purple Heart. He was also retired with 33 years of service from the Georgia State Transportation Department. He was a member of Powell Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Carol L. Johnson; his daughters, Christina (Todd) Bradley, Grovetown, Julie (Shawn) Clayborn, Grovetown and Tracy Johnson, Harlem; His Grandchildren, Andrew Gates, Statesboro, Greg Gates, Camp Lejeune, NC and Heather (Matthew) Brown, Camp Pendleton, CA, Samantha Clayborn, Grovetown, Allie Clayborn, Grovetown and Cheyenne Johnson, Harlem; Sisters, Linda Volner, Harlem and Judy Bullard, Winfield; brother Ricky Lonergan, Appling; and mother-in- law Catherine L. Cliatt, Grovetown. He was preceded in death by his son Jerry D. Johnson, sister Debbie Chancellor, step-father J.W. Lonergan and mother Gaynell Lonergan. Pallbearers will be members of the Military. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Odyssey Hospice, 3508 Professional Cir. Martinez, GA 30907.
