James Smith (COLUMBUS, Ga.)

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Mr. James Smith, Jr., (SFC, Retired) of 2301 Cornell Avenue, Columbus, passed Friday at the Medical Center. He was 67 years old. Born in Augusta, GA on August 31, 1942, Mr. Smith was the son of Mr. James Smith, Sr. of Florida and the late Mrs. Ethel Ingram Smith. He was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School in Augusta. He was U. S. Army Veteran, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service and was also retired from Civil Services, Ft. Benning, GA as a mail clerk at Martin Army Community Hospital. He was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Jesse Smith, Willie Smith and Viola McKenzie. Surviving his departure with cherished memories, are: his wife, Mrs. Beulah Smith of Columbus; two sons, Michael A. Smith and Dennis D. Smith of Augusta, GA; three grandchildren; a great grandchild; three sisters, Beatrice Moss, Fayette McDonald( Billy) and Marlette Smith, all of Augusta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services for Mr. Smith will be Friday, 11:00 AM at Evangel Temple First Born Church with Bishop Robert Williams, pastor officiating. The interment will follow in Main Post Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded. Visitation is Thursday, 2 til 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
