Shannon Landing Amos - (ATLANTA, Ga.)

ATLANTA, Ga. - Shannon Landing Amos was born April 16, 1950 in Augusta, GA. She was the Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Landing (Helen,) of 3224 Skinner Mill Road, also in Augusta. Shannon attended Richmond Academy and graduated in the class of 1968. She attended the University of Georgia and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education in 1973, and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Following college, Ms. Amos moved to Columbus, Georgia with her then-husband, Daniel Paul Amos. She taught second grade in the Muscogee County School System until the birth of their Son, Paul, in 1975 followed by the birth of daughter, Lauren, in 1979. Shannon was a devoted mother and civic volunteer, and worked tirelessly to support her husband in his career. Ms. Amos was involved in numerous community, civic, educational, and cultural endeavors. She had a strong interest in supporting the Arts and issues involving the welfare of children. She served on the Board of Directors for the Historic Columbus Foundation, the Columbus Museum, and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, where she has resided for the past six years. Shannon also served as a member of the Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia. She passed away Saturday at Emory University Hospital and was surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her mother, Helen Landing, her Daughter, Lauren and her husband Tyler, of Atlanta, her son, Paul his wife Courtney, of Columbus, Georgia, three Grandsons, Dan, Mansell, and Knox, and her niece, Brittany Stacel, of Atlanta. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday morning at 11:30 at Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
