WRENS, Ga. - James S. "Doc" Phillips, 83, loving husband of 46 years to Reba Norris Phillips and son of the late Charles S. and Bernice Beasley Phillips, entered into rest Friday, October 9, 2009, at Trinity Hospital of Augusta. Funeral services will be held at Wrens U.M.C. today, Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Stan Littleton and Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Interment will follow at the Wrens Memorial Cemetery. Doc was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and was an active member of Wrens United Methodist Church. He was stopped in his tracks upon first sight of his soul mate-life was never the same for him after "Miss Reba". Doc retired-twice-from the Jefferson County Board of Education in maintenance, school bus driver and mail courier. He was also a practicing chiropractor-for over fifty years, people came from far and wide to let Doc Phillips straighten them out. He had a quick wit and smile for everyone and was greatly loved and respected in the community. Mr. Phillips' was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary P. Hilldrum, J.P. Phillips, and Jessie Ellis Phillips. His survivors include his children, Barbara (Kenneth) Prescott, Johnny (Leetta) Ray, and Pat (J.T.) McCorkle; a brother, Chalres (Lucille) Phillips Jr.; a sister, Nellie Reeves; eight grandchildren, Wayne (Jennifer) Prescott, Kip (Karla) Prescott, April Prescott, Erica Walker, Jimmy Laughery, Robert Laughery, Dan McCorkle, and Emily (Benji) Cranford; and eight great-grandchildren, Kady, Kelsee, Hudson, Cole, Haylee, Ariel, Summer and Holly. Pallbearers will be Carl Bethune, Jimmy Fleming, Joe Jenkins, Spence Norton, Ed Perdue, Edward Prescott, Myiron Smith and Vince Williford.
