SNELLING, S.C. - Elbert Timothy Moore, Sr., 83, Mayor of Snelling, died Thursday, October 1, 2009. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Seven Pines Baptist Church, Snelling, SC, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at the home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Survivors include son Elbert Timothy Moore, Jr. (Scottie) of Snelling; daughters Ellen Moore (George Sanders) of Irmo, SC, and Kathryn M. Thompson (Donnie) of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Tiffany Moore, Richmond Turner Moore (Parker), Edward Foy Moore (Carla), Jenny T. Oyler (Ryan), Jessica T. Villalon (Denny); great-grandchildren Michael Thompson, Jeremy Oyler, Justin Oyler, Brandon Oyler, Dylan Villalon, Emma Villalon, Brent Moore, William Moore, and Richmond Moore; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Roy and Georgia Fields, Margie Foy, Irma Moore, all of Barnwell, SC, Walter Smith of Arden, NC, and Joseph Pesa of St. Cloud, FL, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ann Foy Moore, his parents Rufus Richmond and Alda Sauls Moore, brothers William Rufus Moore, Seiverne Englesberry (S.E.) Moore, Eugene O'Neal Moore, sisters Lois M. Smith and Lorraine M. Pesa, and grandson John Anthony Thompson. Mayor Moore was born in Snelling, SC, on December 7, 1925. He attended Barnwell public schools and served in the Pacific Theater in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Milliken and Co. and was a partner in Moore and Moore Cows of Snelling. He was member of Seven Pines Baptist Church, Ellenton Agricultural Club, American Legion Post 46, and was a long time member of the Barnwell County Democratic Party Executive Committee. He was elected Mayor of Snelling in 1969 and at the time of his death, was the longest serving Mayor in South Carolina. At his request, memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Barnwell County Veterans Park, P.O. Box 160, Barnwell, SC, 29812 in honor of those who served.
