John S. Whitten   (HARLEM, Ga.)

HARLEM, Ga. - Entered into rest Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at University Hospital, Mr. John S. Whitten, Jr. 68, husband of Mrs. Marilyn B. Whitten. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the Smithboro Baptist Church, Smithboro Road, Monticello, Ga. with the Dr. Dale Parker and Dr. Tom Drake officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:00 AM until time of service. Mr. Whitten was born in Monticello, Ga. to the late John S. and Sara O. Whitten. He had retired from Fort Gordon after 40 years of service. Mr. Whitten is survived by his wife, Marilyn Blair Whitten; His son and best friend, John S. Whitten, III, Grovetown; one brother, Billy Whitten (Julia), Monticello; Sisters Frances Garrard, Monticello, Sara Mahom, Geneva, Alabama, and Betty Johnston, Monticello; Stepson Chadwick Brantley and grandchildren Taylor and Hunter Brantley; and Several Nieces and Nephews who John loved dearly. Marilyn's family brought a lot of support and love to John including Robert C. Blair (Karlene), William Blair (Sheila), Brian Blair (Stephanie) and grandchildren Meghan, Matthew and Bailey Blair. His fishing buddies were Marcus Mahon and Matthew Blair. Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.
