JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Kathryn Louise Sands, age 75, passed away May 13, 2009 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born May 31, 1933 to the late Johnnie Albert Burnett and Roxie Prevatt Burnett in Macclenny, FL. Louise was preceded in death by her brother, John Allen Burnett. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim Sands of Macclenny, FL; son, Keith David Sands and devoted daughter-in-law, Connie Haucke Sands; daughters, Kathryn Lynn (Jimmy) Boone and Jeri Michele (Garland) Marsh; granddaughter, Kate Boone; nephews, Jason Burnett, Douglas Burnett and John Burnett; and very special friends, Pok Yon P'Simer and Thomas Russell all of Jacksonville, FL. Louise lived in Macclenny until graduation from High School. Married in 1951, she became a homemaker with her husband serving a military obligation in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After becoming a mother they returned to Florida and together attended the University of Florida. Following her husband graduating from UF and relocating to South Georgia she finished her undergraduate at Valdosta State University. Soon after she began a teaching career that became a life long love for supporting the educational needs of children and adults. Through encouragement from family and colleagues she continued her own education to serve public and private schools in Georgia and South Carolina. With a Doctor of Education Degree, Louise later retired from the public school system in Augusta, Georgia. Following retirement she and her husband relocated to Florida. In retirement she continued to enjoy shopping, traveling and visiting her many friends. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude and thanks to St. Catherine's LaBoure Manor 'One-South' and St. Vincent's Medical Center. We will forever remember your compassion and care for Louise. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny, FL with Pastor Donnie Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The arrangements are under the care and direction of V.
