NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Donald David Ellefson, husband of Ulla Ellefson, of Oak Creek Drive, entered into rest, Thursday, April 16, 2009 at his residence. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 19th, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Glander officiating. Interment will be private. Mr. Ellefson was born Jan. 12, 1940 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In 1952 he moved to Charleston, S.C. At the age of 18, he worked for his father as a contract truckman and owner operator for Greyhound Van Lines & Paul Arpin Van Lines. He received numerous fleet safety and hauling awards such as Driver of the Year. In 1966, Mr. Ellefson moved to Augusta and with his father began Acme Moving & Storage. After the death of his father in 1970, Mr. Ellefson took over the business. In 1973 he started A-1 Bestway, Inc. and became an agent for Global Van Lines. Mr. Ellefson was named Agent of the Year in 1988 and was elected to the company's Board of Directors. As Mr. Ellefson celebrated his 25th Anniversary of Acme Moving & Storage in 1992, the company was nominated as Georgia Family Business of the Year. The next year he began Augusta Data Storage, Inc. Record Management Co. 1994 brought a nomination for Augusta Chamber Businessman of the year and in 1996, Mr. Ellefson was named Global Van Lines Agent of the Year. In 1997, he celebrated the grand opening of a new 100,000 sq. ft. facility. In that same year, he started ADSI Moving Systems, Inc. and became an agent for United Van Lines. In 1999, Mr. Ellefson received the Green Arrow Award and was named Storage Contractor of the Year by the Military Traffic Management Command. Mr. Ellefson was a member of many civic clubs & industry associations including: Augusta Jaycees, AMBUCS, Elks Lodge, Lions Club, North Augusta Sertoma, Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, National Moving & Storage Association, American Movers Conference, Georgia Movers Association & was named 2008 Sertoman of the Year. In addition to his wife, Ulla, Mr. Ellefson is survived by three sons and their wives: Brian & Anita Ellefson, Ty & Lorrie Ellefson, & Nyles & Juanita Ellefson, all of North Augusta; six grandchildren: Kristin, Rachel, Ashley, Katelyn, Hannah, & Jack; one sister, Julie Kay Stone and her partner Bobby Lewis; one niece and her husband and son, Julie Kay & Steve Doty and Hunter; and his father-in-law, Adam DeGaglia. Pallbearers will be Harry Elsey, Pickens Redd, Keeble Lambeth, Fred Whidden, Tom Ahern, & Mike Lewter. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 17th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rowland Funeral Home.
