AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, March 6, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital, Mrs. Virginia McQueen, of Gibson Drive, wife of the late Henry B. McQueen. Funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. from Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church (USA), 2454 Golden Camp Rd., with Rev. Melvin Lowry officiating. Interment will be in Walker Memorial Park. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. The funeral procession will leave the residence at 10:15 a.m. Mrs. McQueen was a native of Meriwether County, S.C. She attended Homestead Elementary and Goulds Junior High School in Dade County, Fla. She graduated from Carver High School, Miami, Fla. and Paine College in Augusta, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was a member of Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church (USA), where she served as Treasurer, Elder, and a member of the Margee Barbee Daytime Circle. Mrs. McQueen's professional career spanned thirty-three years, teaching at Waynesboro Elementary, Clara Jenkins Elementary, Bayville Elementary, and Wilkinson Gardens Elementary. Survivors are two daughters, Karie "Kay" Rains and Anita McQueen, Augusta; one son, Michael McQueen, Marietta, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Hilda McQueen, Lawrence, Mass. and Christine Elaine McQueen-Ward, Macon, Ga.; stepson, Charles McQueen, Augusta; 10 grandchildren; father, Isaiah Key, Homestead, Fla.; sisters, LeVessie Davis, Florida City, Fla. and Dorothy Key Zeigler, Atlanta, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Sarah Deas, Columbia, S.C. and Alma Reed (Willie James), Aynor, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
