Roland W. Sasser (COLUMBIA, S.C.)

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Funeral service for Roland Wright Sasser, Jr., 84, will be held Friday, January 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 - 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service, in the church parlor. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Sasser died Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Born in Goldsboro, N.C., he was a son of the late Roland Wright Sasser, Sr. and Carrie Bryant Sasser. Mr. Sasser was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in business. He served with the Air Force as a B-25 pilot during WW II. Mr. Sasser retired from Monroe Inc., a division of Litton Industries. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed telling jokes. Mr. Sasser was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, where he served as secretary of the Lutheran Men. He was a dedicated church volunteer. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Holst Sasser of Columbia; son, Roland W. "Rick" Sasser III and his wife, Vicki L. of Evans, Ga.; two daughters, Dianne S. Goldfinch of Conway and Sandra Haddon and her husband, John W. of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Dorothy S. Sellers of Shallotte, N.C.; brother, Charles E. Sasser and his wife, Elizabeth M. of Morganton, N.C.; five grandchildren, Timothy O'Conner and his wife, Angela, Preston Haddon, Laura Haddon, William M. Goldfinch IV and his wife, Sallie and Jessica K. Goldfinch; and one great-grandchild, Ireland O'Conner. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, William M. Goldfinch III and a brother-in-law, William T.
