Ida Lee Powell (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at her residence, Mrs. Ida Lee Powell, 97, wife of the late Fred L. Powell. Mrs. Powell was a native and life long resident of Augusta, GA. She dedicated her life to community service and was involved in many organizations including: Richmond County Board of Education for 28 years where she was the first woman to ever serve as president, Charter member of Human Rights Commission, Daughters of the American Revolution, Past Grand Matron of Order of Eastern Star-State of GA 1962, Worthy Grand Ruth of General Grand Chapter of OES and member of the local chapter Rosemary # 158. For years Mrs. Powell was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Family members include her sons: Fred L. Powell, Jr. and Jesse Powell; daughters: Dorothy John and Anne Gomillion; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and brother: Clifford Pollard. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery with Rev. Travis McNeal officiating. Pallbearers will be Rusty John, Fred John, Michael John, Dave John, Jay Powell and Carl Baxley. Memorials may be made to the Order of Easter Star Cancer Aide c/o J.
