Madeline F. Smith (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Thursday, August 14, 2008 at her residence, Ms. Madeline F. Smith of White Pine Court. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 22, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. from Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church with Reverend Robert E. Christian, Jr. and Reverend Alton R. Pegues officiating. Interment will be in Southview Cemetery. Ms. Smith was a native of Augusta, Georgia and a member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. She expressed her love and sense of service with dedication by serving as a Class Leader, member of the Lay Council, Christian Education Department, Woman's Home and Overseas Missionary Society and the H. H. Brigham Gospel Chorus and Chancel Choir, where she served as a lead vocalist with both choirs with a distinct and melodious voice. She retired from the Richmond County Board of Education after many years of diligent service as a custodian at W. S. Hornsby Elementary School. Survivors are a soul mate, Burt Jackson; four daughters, Ossie Denise Townsend, Sheila Smith and Cysiley Smith of Augusta, and Hortensia Smith, of Euless, TX; one son, Burt Smith, of Augusta; five sisters, Alberta (Milton) Freeman, Myrtis (Raymond) Wells, Nancy (Albert) Smith, Roberta (Franklin) Daniels of Augusta and Alice (Earl) Mitchell, Charleston, SC; five brothers, George (Eloise) Freeman, of Pompano Beach, FL, Willie (Adeline) King, of Augusta and Edward King, of Los Angeles, CA, Leon (Patricia) King, of De Bary, FL and Robert King, of Linden, NJ; a dear aunt, Maeshell Cunningham, of Augusta; other aunts and uncles; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
