Kathryn M. York (MARTINEZ, Ga.)

MARTINEZ, Ga. - Kathryn Melrose York was called to stand with the Lord on May 20th, 2008. Katie, 20, beloved daughter of Ron and Melrose York of Martinez, was a born in Augusta, Georgia on June 2, 1987. She attended Augusta Preparatory Day School and was a graduate of Augusta Christian Schools. She was a 2003-2004 Scholastic All-American for USA Swimming, and was on the 2004 All State Team where she won the state championship in 100 Backstroke. She was a member of the Aiken Augusta Swim League for 10 years and won the 2004 Coach's Award for exemplary leadership in and out of the pool. She was a current student at Augusta State University and was employed by the Family Y in Augusta. She was passionate about her job and the children she helped as an assistant instructor with the Adaptive Swimming Program at the Family Y. She was looking forward to a career in rehabilitative services working with children with special needs. Confident in her faith and passionate for Christ, Katie was an active member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church. After life-threatening viral encephalitis in January, 2005, Katie became even more determined to complete her education and lead a life in service to others. She was joyful, exuberant and full of love. She touched everyone she met with her sweet and generous spirit. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, and who have been called according to His purposeÉif God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:28 Katie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Dorothy and Herman York of Spokane and by her maternal grandfather David B. Perrin. In addition to her parents, Ron and Melrose, Katie leaves behind an adoring brother, Paul, a sister-in-law, Meredith, a niece, Kylie, a grandmother, Melrose B. Perrin, aunt and uncle Anne and David Perrin, cousins Benjamin, Abby and David Perrin, and her cherished friend Michael Tonry. Additionally she is survived by aunts and uncles, Denny and Cathy York, Lori and Greg Ramsdell, and Marilyn Schahfer of Spokane, Washington, and Pam and Jim Colbert of Moscow, Idaho, and many other cousins and family members who were all blessed to have known her. Katie's passion for giving and sharing was apparent in her numerous close friends who will miss her laugh, her beautiful smile and her love. A service in celebration of Katie's life will be held at Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church at 1330 Monte Sano Avenue on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Brown, Rev. Greg Hatfield, Rev. Kris Key and Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Visitation will be held in Wesley Hall at Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Adapted Aquatics Program at the Family Y (Attn.
