Macy June Smith (EVANS, Ga.)

EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Macy June (Jones) Smith, was received into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday May 2, 2008, at the age of 75 after battling Alzheimer's disease and Post - polio Syndrome. She was the loving and devoted wife of 53 years to SGM Sylvester A. Smith (Ret.) In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Steve Copeland of Stockbridge, GA, and daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Michael Harvey of Alcoa, TN, grandchildren, Keith Copeland of North Carolina, Calista, Brittany, and Rebecca Harvey of Tennessee, great grandchildren, Madison Faith and Kaelen "Jacob" Harvey of Tennessee, brothers, Thomas "Junior" Jones and Jim Jones of Virginia, David Jones of Oklahoma, sisters, Vivian Anderson, Dot Goodman, Mildred Debord (deceased) of Virginia, Virginia James of Pennsylvania, and special niece, Patsy Aker of Virginia. Mrs. Smith was born in Meadowview, VA on May 18, 1932. After traveling extensively with her military husband, they settled in the Augusta area where they have lived for 35 years. She entered Civil Service in 1970 and after moving to the Augusta area began working at the Fort Gordon Hospital, later Eisenhower Army Medical Center, as a Medical Clerk until she retired in 2006. She was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as Sunday school secretary for many years. Visitation will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3045 Deans Bridge Rd. Augusta, GA on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM with the funeral service immediately following at 7:00 PM with Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating. The Dabney Sunday School Class (of which she was a member) will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
