Peyton 'Pat' Paxton (AYDEN, N.C.)

AYDEN, N.C. - Mr. Peyton Ernest "Pat" Paxton, Jr. passed away on Saturday April 12, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park Pat, son of the late Peyton Ernest Paxton, Sr. and the late Maxine Sandridge Nadal, was a native of Waynesboro, Virginia. He was a graduate of North Augusta High School and also attended the University of South Carolina. He worked for 32 years at Proctor & Gamble retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Carolina Classic Cruisers' Car Club in Kinston, the Fayetteville Schundzund Dog Club and a lifetime member of the American Racing Pigeon Association. A competitive person by nature, Pat was an accomplished runner and participated in several marathons. He had a great respect for physical health and always strived for the absolute best. Another joy was for his animals, specifically in working with and training police dogs. In addition, he had a great love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Darlene Morris Paxton; daughter, Deborah P. Pierce and husband, Lt. Col. Travis Pierce, of Valdosta, Ga.; son, Peyton E. Paxton, III of Clayton, NC; stepsons, Matthew D. Uebler and wife, Faith, of Saucier, MS., Jason C. Uebler of Ayden, Rodney S. Uebler and wife, Pam of Blackjack; eleven grandchildren; step-mother, Betty H. Paxton of Spartanburg, SC; brothers, David Paxton and wife, Marinell of Ellijay, GA., James Paxton and friend, Keri of Powder Springs, GA., John Paxton and wife Lynda of Edgefield, SC. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at his home.
