Duris Speights (LTC, U.S. Army AUGUSTA, Ga.)

LTC, U.S. Army AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lt. Col. Duris Speights, Jr. "Daddy Dee" passed to be with our Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2008. Born February 25, 1928, he was preceded in death by his mother Wilma Price Holmes, his father Duris Speights Sr. and his youngest daughter Dee Ann Bass. Leaving his beloved wife Ruby of 60 years; his daughter Sharon; sons-in-law Audie Bovier, Bob Walters; granddaughter: Heather Hutchinson and husband Chris Hutchinson; grandson: Scott Bovier; two great grandchildren: Hannah Quick and KaylaAnn Hutchinson. Dee loved all his family and friends, he was always there to listen and help whomever needed him. Retired as a Military Policeman, he received his Master's Degree in History from the University of Mississippi Southern. Raised in Columbia, Mississippi, he joined the Army and moved around the world from Japan to Germany before retiring at Ft. Gordon. Dee will be remembered as quite an entrepreneur, developing Mr. D's Menswear, Realestate, Foxfire & Western motels and many other business. He was a past member of West Lake Country Club and Forest Hill Golf Association. Dee loved life, family, people, business, cards and a good time. He will be missed by all that knew him. Graveside service with full Military Honors, will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Robert F. Hunt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, c/o Ruby Speights, 3565 Pebble Beach Dr., Martinez, GA 30907, for her grandchild, Hannah Quick.
