Frances Childress (GREENVILLE, S.C.)

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Frances Mae Hopkins Childress died March 16th, 2008 at the age of 89 at Rolling Green Village in Greenville, SC. Mrs. Childress was born on August 2nd, 1918 in Oak City, NC, daughter of the late James Herbert and Annie Mae Harrell Hopkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband D. Ralph Childress. Frances is an alumnus of Louisburg College in Louisburg, NC. She lived a full life filled with music serving as a pianist at Park Road Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC from 1953-1963, pianist and organist at North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia, SC from 1963-1979, and as a pianist at First Baptist Church in Augusta, GA from 1990-1994. In 2003, Frances moved to Greenville, SC where she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville and resided at Rolling Green Village until her death Sunday morning March 16th, 2008. Frances is survived by her son James Hopkins Childress and daughter-in-law Ethel Martin Childress of Greenville, SC, her grandson Mark Childress and wife, Kari Beth, of Suwanee, GA, her grandson Stephen Childress and wife, Beth, of Greenville, SC, her great grandchildren Faxon and McCain Childress of Suwanee, GA, her beloved sister Peggy Gray and husband, Dr. William H. Gray, of Williamston, NC, and many cherished nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Frances Childress will be held Wednesday, March 19th at 2:00 at the main activities room at Rolling Green Village in Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends following the service. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 21 in Oak City, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund in support of the Hungary Missions Partnership.
