Thomas E. Stephenson (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Thomas E. Stephenson, 72, beloved husband of Mrs. Grace Stephenson, entered into rest on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Platt's Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Greg Porterfield and Rev. Pat Williams officiating. Entombment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Mr. Stephenson was born in Swainsboro, Georgia to John Stephenson and Edna Stone Stephenson. He graduated from Glascock County High School and went on to earn a Business degree from Georgia State University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy who served during the Korean Conflict. For 33 years he worked for the Internal Revenue Service and after retiring, worked as a tax consultant for Johnson Motor Company for 13 years. He was an enrolled agent and a member of NARFE and NSTP and attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father and was affectionately known as "Pops" by his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Grace, he is survived by his son, Tommy Stephenson and his wife, Leslie, of Evans; a daughter, Brenda Tanner and her husband, Britt, of Conway, South Carolina; a brother, Bill Stephenson of Acworth, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Carolyn Tanner, Thomas Stephenson, Blake Stephenson, Lilli Stephenson, and Carson Stephenson. Pallbearers will be Roy Howell, J.H. Usry, Kenneth Swim, David Peace, Larry Lynn, C.E. Phelps, and Jim King.
